World Trade Growing at 25%

Following the fragile conditions of the global economy, the logistics sector has been experiencing a robust return to growth. We are pleased to see that this return to growth is particularly strong in the air and sea freight industry, with overall trade increasing by 25% compared to figures in 2009.

This better performance has been due to recovery in world trade. Although merchandise exports have increased by 7% in the second quarter when compared with the first quarter of 2010, statistics like this disguise volatility within the market. We marked a distinct decline in trade during April and May, followed by an enormous recovery in June.

In US Dollar terms increases have been very marked, with China seeing a year-on-year increase in exports at 41% and imports at 41%. The US has also recorded a year-on-year increase in exports at 25% and imports at 32%.

Combined with the growth seen in the first quarter of the year, overall trade has increased by 25% in the first quarter of 2010, a great result considering the World Trade Organisation predicted a  trade  growth of  only 9.5% in 2010.
