On the 1st September 2010, the Emirates A380 landed at Manchester Airport, the first regional airport in the World to have a regular service by an Airbus A380. Whilst the A380 has become an eye catching fixture at many of the world’s biggest international airports, its arrival at Manchester Airport marks a ground breaking achievement in terms of the airport’s global standing.
The airport has invested nearly £10million in upgrading the airfield in preparation for the enormous plane and has upgraded the airport terminal to accommodate Emirates’ customers. With Manchester now being classed as ‘A380 ready’, the airport has achieved ‘Category 10’ status, meaning it can now accommodate larger freighter aircraft operating around the world.
The Airbus A380 is the most environmentally-advanced airliner in the sky today, offering better fuel economy than most hybrid cars and burns up to 20% less fuel per seat than most aircrafts. The A380 is the world’s only twin-deck airliner, with the upper deck dedicated to ensuring ultimate luxury for first and business class passengers. Not only is there an area for socialising and canapés, but also an area to shower and enjoy a spa treatment. The Emirates Airbus A380 is the definition of luxury air travel.
